MY PROCESS
Every project I take on begins with a questionnaire. This allows me to better understand the project and the client. I am very intentional about the projects that I take on because I want to continue to do my best work. This means working with passionate individuals that make great things.
Once I have decided to take on a project, I will contact the client with an outline of a specific process for this project. Following this, I like to further brief the client with very specific questions as to the goals and value of my work.
After the goals and timeline have been established, I will submit a project agreement with the amount to be paid for the project for approval. I do not submit a quote for projects before this point, as the price can only be determined after the value of the project is discovered. With the agreement signed and a 50% deposit received, I begin work on the actual project.
When beginning this work, I break it down into four sections: research, planning, production, and editing.
Research includes studying the target audience and objectives, as defined by the client. Without a focus on this step, the project risks failure, as there would be no clear direction. Planning is the preparation stage, which includes outlining, writing, and storyboarding. Production is the video and audio recording of the content to be delivered. And finally, Editing, otherwise known as killing your darlings, is a crucial step in which the final piece is crafted and refined.
Once a project is completed, it is then presented to the client, with an outline of the work that was completed. This is a summary of the decisions that were made and an explanation as to how those decisions serve the client’s goals.
After the final payment is received, a high resolution export of the video as well as all agreed upon project files, will be immediately delivered to the client.
At this point I would be happy to answer any questions about the project and implementation of the video. Once the video has been released, I follow up with the client, assuring that the goals were attained. I send for some feedback, as I hope to constantly improve my process. I also ask for a testimonial, as it effectively displays the project’s success. While both of these are useful in showing off the project, they are entirely optional.
I love to show off my work. While you do receive all rights to the final project unless otherwise discussed, I may add the video to my portfolio and turn the project presentation and testimonial into a case study.
